PARTYNEXTDOOR released his third full length project PARTYNEXTDOOR 3 (P3) this past Friday to a mixed response. The OVO signee from Canada rarely does interviews but he sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss the new project, the drama surrounding his relationship with Kehlani, writing the smash ‘Work’ for Rihanna and Drake, focusing on solo music and more.
The entertainer was not thrilled about the release of the full-length offering like most of the rappers are. “It’s not an album release party,” the R&B singer-songwriter told Rolling Stone, while picking at rice-free sushi in a 10th floor apartment in midtown Manhattan. “This year wasn’t a party for me, as ironic as that is. The best and worst things happened at once.”
Addressing the Kehlani drama PND explained the following:
“I regret how it went down. Big time I regret how it went down. I look into people’s eyes, and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know. I just hope people understand that was a year for him (talking about himself in third person). And I hope everyone has a successful year, and I hope that’s in the past.”
The OVO signee continued by revealing his mother reaction when listening to P3:
“This album is blues — it may push away the pretty people. My mother didn’t listen to my first tape, or my second one,” he notes. “Now I get the texts like, ‘Jahron, this is what I was giving you $50 a month for.’ She can go back and tell her mom, ‘Look what my son made. It sounds like something we grew up to.’”
