Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” tour stopped at Madison Square Garden in New York City Thursday night, and the Toronto rapper had some very harsh words for NYC radio station Hot 97. “Fuck Hot 97” he rapped on stage during a freestyle, claiming they were telling lies about him. This is in reference to host Ebro Darden claiming Drake told him he would diss Eminem if the Detroit MC dissed Drake. Ebro would later say he was joking about the whole thing.
But that wasn’t all Drake said as part of a freestyle during the concert – the first of his four New York “Summer Sixteen” shows with Future scheduled for this weekend and Monday. “They tellin’ lies on Hot 97, that’s how it goes / I told ’em Fire Funk Flex and then I’ll come and do your show,” he said, referring to veteran Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex.
Flex got himself heavily involved in Drake’s beef with Meek Mill last year after he leaked several reference tracks for Drake songs. This included “10 Bands,” “R.I.C.O.,” “Used To,” and “Know Yourself.” Plus, he also had some strong words towards Drizzy and ghostwriting in general.
Funkmaster Flex, who is both not one to shy away from a challenge and celebrating his 47th birthday Friday, promised he’d respond to Drake’s diss (rest assured, there will be plenty of “bombs” dropped) on the radio Saturday night. “Hahahaha!!!” the veteran DJ tweeted. “7pm Sat I got a story to tell! @Drake u gonna learn!” Now we wait…
